'The Hell joint' ! Love it. Great name for a type of joint.
Perhaps nothing better than being sat down whittling away at a piece of wood. . . .then again being the lazy type I prefer to sit down and watch someone else whittle away at a piece of wood.

Pity about the video quality.

Thanks for posting that Mignal, very interesting. I found the use of the 'square' jig in trimming tenons fascinating.
You are right about 'sitting and watching'. Something I do too much of these days.

Excellent skills - though cutting towards naked flesh made me cringe at times - I've still got a scar on my left Palm from a "chisel incident" at school!

Hi Harbo , from what I've seen of Japanese chisel videos (thnx to Mignal by the way , not seen that one) the guiding hand on the chisel is mostly well supported by workpiece , fixture , bench or body . This would limit the danger of it travelling deep into flesh. In my whittling I often look to others as though I am about to shorten my thumb on most strokes but either the wood or the action of the cutting method prevent it . I'm also fond of a very sharp knife which limits accidents by reducing the need for mad force. If I recall , most japanese craftsmen also like sharp tools :) , which also may help some. All that being said , I still have used a Bandaid or 2 from the box in the shop, no searching for bits of me on the floor though :D .
