Having shown a 16mm version of 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday' at college and loved it, I tried to get hold of 'Jour de Fete' - to no avail. I looked for it over the years at various local cinemas, but never managed to get to one showing it on the correct day. I DID see 'Mon Oncle', and 'Trafic', but still yearned for the one I had missed.
Forty years later, I saw it was showing in an art cinema in London, so left work early, drove at high speed to near Harrods, paid a fortune in a car park, ran to the cinema - only to find people standing outside with cocktails. When I asked about 'Jour de Fete', they said that the cinema had been taken over for a private party that evening!

Eventually, I got a DVD.

Thanks for linking to this short, which does indeed cover some of the 'business' used in 'Jour de Fete', but the slickness of the timing is superb.
