Recently I crashed my Windows 7pro. Back and running ok now.

I typed JPG in the START search box and

got a lovely surprise, all my pictures formated jpg appeared in preview mode like the Picassa program.

I have tried to do it on my portable hardrive on E. but do not get any response. (there is 300gb stored) (so do not want to copy and paste back the entire contents of the portable harddrive)

Is there a way to get a preview window of my jpg files from this E drive using that search at the start box please?

can you not simply browse to the E drive using windows explorer and change the view in windows explorer to Large Icons. I know this doesn't use seach and the start box but it lets you view thumbnails. The downward arrow on the top right lets you change the view

Thanks, tried that but but got to folder views but I never indexed the folders so need to look in, and there are hundreds and I am looking for a particular railway photograph I took for painting.
Any further help appreciated.

OK guys, my siesta is over.

Clicked windows icon on keyboard +F

Saw my E drive Iomega entry at explorer.

Click and there is a search bar at the top right when into
edrive typed jpg and got the jpg preview of each folders content.

Not as good as when on C drive because I only have pictures stored at MY PICTURES; but suppose I cannot have everything.

(Will be doing a select all copying and putting e drive pics. back into C drive temporarly and then pasting the ones I wanty back to portable harddrive titled appropropiately. and deleting the rest not wanted at C drive)

Thanks all for getting me there.

Will not be watching the football match tonight..

One of the easiest programs to use to make backups and synchronise files between discs is Microsofts free program
Sync Toy

It allows you to set up pairs of folders on two different discs and when a pair is selected it automatically adds, synchronises file dependant upon what parameters are set.

On my systems it just adds new files to the backup folders on external drives.

I have pairs for Documents, Images/pictures, videos etc. this allows me to quickly make a backup of new work to another drive (internal or external)

You can use it to move files from an external drive to your main drive as well.

I had a problem this morning, I got the search system going well in my E. portable drive.
I had typed jpg up in the search box and when it got to over 50.000 preview results and still counting I was concerned my PC might blow up. So I went to task manager and applied End Task to the drive. PHEW!

Each year for around 12 years I have backed up MY PICTURES and that had multiplied the folders so many pics are really repeats.

I shall have to take the long round to get my jpg's sorted on that drive.

I know there are various programs available for sorting through duplicate files. Dupe Guru and so on. Might be worth trying to find one that serves your purpose? http://www.howtogeek.com/200962/how-to- ... n-windows/
I'm not knowledgable enough to recommend a particular one, sorry. I used dupeguru at one point with mild success at one point but it wasn't without issues for me at least.
Good luck!

Chris
