That happened to an acquaintance of mine, only the buyer was his friend and the envelope was £200 short. When he tackled his 'friend' about it later (after counting the money) the reply was ' I know it's £200 short, and you have learned a useful lesson'.

Hmmmm

Now I always count the cash, and if I am paying I insist the seller counts it too, then there is no argument.

Two lessons there I reckon. One general, one specific to the 'friend'.

I was told that if a friend asks for a loan of twenty quid, always agree the first time at least. Friendship is priceless, and twenty quid is not much to learn that a friend isnt. £200 is a bit steep though.
