Years ago, when I got my first compressor, someone told me that you should never switch off a compressor with the mains switch, always with the switch on the machine. I have always done this, but never known why or whether it's really necessary. Any answers?

When I turn mine off their is what sounds like a small release of pressure, so perhaps something to do with a pressure switch involved?

LOL
I read that as 'How to do you turn your computer off', I thought you were all taking the mick.

You should not turn any equipment on and off at the wall socket.

Wall socket switches are not made to withstand the arc as the power is switched. They will burn out fairly quickly.
The wall socket switch is purely an isolator to be used before pulling the plug out with your fingers wrapped and it.
