Plenty of wood framed bandsaws were built in Finland after the war when everything had to be rebuilt and machines were hard to get. In hindight most of them got proplems with deformation and alignment. Few are usable anymore.
If you decide to build one I think you should build the C-frame and the shaft mounts even more solid than Mathias does. Personally I would weld up the C-frame as a box section from 10 or 12 mm mild steel plate if I was to make a home made bandsaw.
I found it easier and better to buy an old one with usable cast iron frame and wheels and start from that. It costed less than I would have paid for the materials needed to make it.
