I picked up a set of holesaw set from screwfix.

http://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-holesaw ... -set/93131

However, when trying to use a 44mm bit in my press to cut through about 20mm of pine, it's very slow, gets very hot and burns. I'm not forcing it, and am periodically coming up to blow out the sawdust, but it's taking forever. Several minutes to get through 20mm

They seem sharp, but don't really have a blade, just a sharp tooth.

Wondering if these are just crap bits? I know Titan isn't great.

I need to cut about 30 of these holes. Quality doesn't need to be great.

They're designed to cut thin metal and plastic rather than wood. Like a hacksaw blade, there is not a razor sharp edge as normal intended use would destroy it very quickly, and there is nowhere for the sawdust to go which is why they burn. You might do better with a better holesaw, but they the design is the same. A 44mm sawtooth Forstner would be ideal - but you're into big money for anything decent.

i have had that set for ages
i use them in my hand drill

i wonder if you are going too slow?
can you speed your drill up a try again?

You need to drill a hole to let the sawdust out. Use the saw to mark the kerf then remove it and drill several holes on the waste side of the kerf to let the sawdust out.

Your drill press is going round in the right direction?
All the teeth are properly formed?
Is the pine full of resin? If so then regular cleaning is the only way.
