I have the Ryobi 4" sander and it when ever I sand a large area it ends up leaving snail like gouges in the timber. Even though the timber is flat and the sander was flat on the machine. I am not sure whether this is belt or rubber roller related, but I am thinking of replacing it and was wondering whether the 3" Hitachi is a good one?

Thanks

maybe try a random orbit sander for final finishing, great results to be had.]

The only way for most people to get good results from a belt sander is to get one that takes a sanding frame.
