Hi... I'm a new member to the forum so thought I would say a quick hi to everyone. I didn't know what is the expected thing to do after sign up but thought it would be good idea to introduce myself here.

I am a totally green to woodworking other than what I did back in my school days, but have this desire to get into something real and make things in my spare time. Being in the IT\Technology sector, it is all vapourware, which I think is the driver for me wanting to do something real that I can get my hands on.

I have just bought a load of books, and and now need to start gathering tools for some projects that I want to get going. Firstup I think will be 2 x saw horses, then a work bench and maybe a toolbox. Here's hoping that they don't prove to be too difficult to do.

Anways, it looks like this is just the place to learn the craft, and hopefully down the line I will even be in a place to contribute. In the interim, , please be gentle.

Thanks for having me.

Clint

Hi Clint and welcome.

Judging from the very thorough way that any IT related question on here gets answered, you are not alone in finding woodwork the perfect antidote to the more abstract world of IT.

I think your plan of making some useful things to help with later projects is very sensible.

Welcome. You're on right path. My first 'project' was a saw horse. I still use it. Simple construction out of 3x2 and 2x2 because at the time I only had a handsaw, a chisel and mallet, screwdriver and electric drill. I must have made it ok because I still use it some 34 years on.
The guys and girls on the forum are very knowledgeable and generous with their advice. Enjoy.

Thanks all for the warm welcomes so far.

It is comforting to know that I have the option of asking questions on here ahead of spending my hard earnt money. Looking at the price some tools seem to go for (I am of the opinion of 'buy correctly the first time and you shouldn't need to again'), it is all a little daunting if I am honest. Being doing some googling on Christopher Schwarz's recommended list and the prices seem to accumualte fast.

Seems like this can fast become an addiction, and as such be a slippery slope. Can't wait to see where it takes me.
