I recently bought an old used Axminster (MS-648) edge sander. The machine is 20yrs old and been in a school for most of its life and the platen is warn/warped/twisted and obviously won't sand straight. The platen doesn't look like it is removable, unlike the modern Axminster equivalent, and I can't find any user manual online.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix? It is too distorted to mill flat I think. I'm tempted to try and use lots of JB weld to fill (as centre is dished) then sand flat and cover in graphite cloth but not sure if this would work. Any advise would be really appreciated.

Thanks
Richard
