Been asked to reduce my library of woodworking books (has some classics) and seen it done on here. I have used paypal on ebay but never on here. Can someone explain how its done on here? Thanks

Paypal works as an easy way to transfer money. For me to send you, say, the price of a book, you only need to tell me the email address that you use with your Paypal account. I log on to my Paypal account, and follow the links to 'make a payment' and enter your email address and the amount.

Paypal charge a cut of the amount. This can be less if the transfer is marked as a gift - if the parties were worried about Paypal's income they could mark it as a purchase and pay more. Either way, it's probably less hassle than a cheque.

I think if youre selling via paypal payment here then you ask for payment as a 'gift' from the person buying the item. They can then send you a paypal payment but as its a 'gift' they will be unable to reverse the payment. Also the buyer has to pay the paypal charges if paying by gift but if you accept normal payment then you pay the paypal charges. Hopefully that made sense!

Paypal sent as a gift means the sender pays the paypal; charges, they get their cut either way. Sent as a gift there is no comeback if things go **** up. Generally speaking provided the seller is aware of paypal charges it is safer all round if sent as a payment for goods or services.

Books rarely make significant money on sale, whether by eBay or secondhand shops, unless they are special in some way (originally very expensive, or now rare). Having spent ages trying to sell part of a large collection, we now donate them, usually to an Oxfam shop that specialises in books.

I think this forum is a good market for woody books, I haven't bought any on here but they always seem to go sharpish, which is also why I haven't managed to buy any on here.

I've sold quite a few books on here but, as has been said, you are not likely to make a fortune. I had a look at the books on Amazon to give myself a guide price but some came out as £0.01 and so I just asked for postage.
You might also want to think about payment by bank transfer as a lot of people bank on-line and the payment is almost instantaneous.

Thank you all for your advice, I know some of the books are not common and not cheap, whereas others can be picked up for next to nothing. Just thought someone might have an interest in some for the return of postage... rather they went to someone with an interest.
so watch the for sale for anyone with interest. And again thanks

And by the way, not asked nor told just trying to clear away some of the clutter I have accumalated over the last 70 years.. have had a least 3 trips to the local skip in the last two weeks!
