Help Bob 9 fingers!

I tried to start my compressor today and it just buzzed and blew the fuse? i thought it was due to the cold so warmed it up and replaced the fuse....it did the same. I then removed the drive belt to see if it was mechanical or electrical. After replacing the fuse again and turning it on it spun one turn and blew the fuse again. It is a single phase 3HP SIP Airmate with a two cylinder pump. Please Bob or anyone, can you help me as I am lost.

I have seen Bob's post thanks guys and i have got the compressor up and running again. It wasn't the capacitor in the end but the motor which had shorted somehow. Not only that but it had also taken the pressure switch with it due to burning fuses.
