hi i am new to the group but not at hardwork . i am from Norfolk and love spending time in my workshop making things . I am registered disabled and at the moment remodelling my workshop to make it easier for me to get around as I do all my stuff sitting on a chair ( mechanical suspension truck seat on 5 heavy duty casters 😉 ) . I want to update my saw from my bosch job site saw to a cast iron static one with a bigger surface I am quite interested in the itech 254 one with all cast iron top and side tables , I have had sip machines in the past handed down from my dad and they were all good quality but the Itech and the sip have the same model number and look the exact same saws but at the moment the Itech is £800 cheaper than the sip any help would be great or any alternatives . I need it to cut a variety if different woods a good all rounder that can cut true . I have many projects given to me from our local school where my wife works and village halls and local clubs etc with next to no budget so i have a nack for repurposing just about anything into usable things that people need

Amazing work and workshop, can I ask how do you achieve these quality projects from a sitting position, I can’t imagine using a table saw or other large machine from a chair. Genuinely curious as a able bodied person.

Hi Bingy man i use a full mechanical suspension truck seat so it’s quite high and comfy and I have low benches and all machines I have bought I make smaller bases to line them up to my benches which is handy as it gives me extra storage up high it is not perfect but I get by . My workshop is my haven and it’s always changing and improving layouts . When i finish this adjustment I will pop on a couple of pictures on so you get a better idea of my workshop

Thanks for your reply and apologies for asking but I’m always thankful for being fully able bodied and it never ceases to amaze me what can be achieved when not so able . 🙏🙏🙏

What a brilliant introduction to this group.
I spent the last 20 years of my career teaching D&T to profoundly disabled young people. The satisfaction and enjoyment so many of them achieved from designing and making was wonderful to be part of.
I had adjustable height work benches, a bench top drilling machine and vacuum former set on the floor and a hegner saw on an up down bench. Lots of quick release clamps and those cheap miter saws. Often I had to give considerable assistance but the enjoyment and satisfaction those young people felt making was no less than any contributors to this site do.
The saddest part was that when I retired my successor gave to another institution the computer controlled lathe the Worshipful Company of Turners had provided me with and the hegner was put into a store. Unfortunately he did not have a background in making and was just a retrained graphic designer.

Thank you for your reply , i always helped my dad growing up he was a traditional old school carpenter and joiner and i always enjoyed making things with him , back then I was able bodied . I became disabled after a bad motorbike accident I was feeling useless and depressed at not being very mobile . I decided to look at things I could do rather than what I couldn’t and remembered the feeling of making things so with some help from family and friends we sorted our garden shed as a sort of workshop with a low bench on one side and a computer chair I got to work and found that feeing again . It has been the best form of therapy and now my workshop has grown in to my little haven a mancave and workshop all in one
