The Hegner in the pic has been in use since 1988 and when it was being used in a workshop, it was running 7 hours a day. Now it is in Whitby cutting names all day in MDF, freehand. It looks rough and sounds a bit rattly, but is still doing good work. I made the long nut you can see on the tension rod as the original is long gone and the allthread rod he is using keeps stripping the threads. He immediately noticed a big difference and said it is cutting like new again. If any scrollers have a trip to Whitby, stop by and say hello, but don't put him off his work. I did today and people kept coming to collect and he hadn't got them done. Oops! Good job it doesn't take him long.

I hope my saw is working as well at 25 years old, although I probably won't be as I will be 81 when the saw reaches that age.

And here's a little tidbit for ChrisR, his Henry vacuum cleaners, he usually uses two, last about 18 months.
Martin.

:) It was about a couple of weeks ago that I first spoke to him, Steve, in fact (counts on fingers) it was two weeks yesterday, though I have passed by him many times over the last few years. I always wanted to watch him even though i had no interest in scrolling at the time. I spent about 2.5 hours with him today and the time flew by. Very interesting chap when you get onto other subjects.

Martin.

Your post should act as an encouragement to anybody contemplating purchasing a (Hegner saw) and thinking they are to expensive, if you divide the purchase price over a lifetime plus use the price/cost is actually fairly low.

If you could convince him to purchase a dust extraction unit with an induction motor, this would then give him a lifetimes use, instead of purchasing a two new vac's every eighteen months. Which again means the cost of a unit with an induction motor spread over a lifetimes work is fairly low.

Take care.
