Hi All,
I was wondering if the following was possible?
I have some pine floorboards which I am in the process of testing a finish for.
I have applied some water based dyes, and I would like to apply saicos hardwax oil as the finish.
however, applying the hardwax oil straight over the board after the dye preserves the flat + matte look of the dyed board too much.
I was thinking about applying some thinned out tung oil, and buffing this a bit, to bring back the grain more, and make the boards look a little richer before finishing them with the saicos.
I realise layering stuff up like this is can be ill advised so I am wondering:
1) Can I use the hardwax oil over the tung oil?
further to this...
2) can I use the hardwax oil over the tung oil and some beeswax?
obviously I can do a test, but looking at a test after a few weeks isn't necessarily going to tell me if im in for trouble long term...
Saicos documentation seems to suggest it might be fine it suggests that you do not need to remove the finish from wood that has been oiled:
From the Docs:
Preparation: Wood surface must be dry and clean (max.
moisture content 12 %). Any paints and varnishes must be
removed (final sanding grain 120-150). Remove dust thoroughly.
Previously oil- or wax-treated surfaces do not require
sanding (cleaning with Ecoline Magic Cleaner) except wood
which is strongly greyed or worn.
Thanks
