Hi, Chaps

Knocked this up from a sycamore tree I felled at the beginning of the year

DSC_0011-2.jpg

430mm including the handles and 200mm wide

Mostly hand carved with a bit of bandsaw work to knock some of the big bits off.

I like that Pete. Well done. A useful object created from local material which might otherwise have been scrap.

Hi, chaps

I used a 1 inch gouge and a 1 1/4 curved gouge to hollow it out, it's a bit big for my spoon knife!
The outside was shaped with a bandsaw, axe, drawknife, spokeshave, card scraper.
I did it in stages as it it was very wet, leaving it to dry a little each time.
It's easy to carve while it's green, and as it drys you can get a better finish.
I didn't sand any part of it it's all finished with shape edges, and a couple of coats of wax.
