I know this is a bit of a digression, but what happens to all the old froes ? Never spot any old ones on e-bay or the usual old tool suppliers. Do they all get ruined, or thrown away because people don't recognise what they are ?

As to how good a froe need be, I guess it depends what you need to do with it. If you just want to spilt modest billets of ash I guess it need not be special, sharp or terribly strong. If you plan on making hurdles, you might be more picky.
