Hi!
I am creating a set of garden furniture and I would love to secure it for the outside conditions. But I don't know what is better oiling or glossing. What I know:

oiling - you have to do it from time to time, but it's a simple procedure.
glossing - is much more demanding, it needs several components (primer, surface layer), better preparation of the surface, tools, and still the effect can be questionable if you do it without experience. The disadvantage of glossing without the application is the fact that when the gloss breaks on the surface it exposes the wood to harmful factors.

I do not really consider myself super experienced more like a Woody the Handyman - what to do? Oiling or risk the glossing?

Thank you.

Oiling every time. Trying to create an impervious layer will vitrually always selectively peel and then to re-finish you will have to strip the lot and start again.
