Just been trying to research combi boilers as we about to replace ours but can't find any direct comparisons anywhere. Any of you guys have any suggestion for a 3 bed house with 1 bathroom.
Cheers

Use the Worcester Bosch sizing calculator online to get an indication of size, then take your pick from any of the premium brands bearing in mind the warranty can be lengthened by a preferred fitter for each brand. Vaillant, Worcester Bosch for example offer longer warranties if the fitter is accredited* for their brand.

Try and buy it yourself and get someone to fit it, but they're more likely to want to buy it for you and add their margin. Does depend on location. For a very good indication of prices, go to Mr Central Heating online and have a look at package prices. If your fitter doesn't want to fit a magnaclean or equivalent, walk away, but they will, and it's worthwhile.

Opinions vary on "power" cleaning the system before fitting, I won't give my opinion on that here.

Hope that helps.

*I have had a friend "accredited" on one of them and it meant "having fitted a few and recommending them in the future".

I found the cost of the boiler was small £800 in comparison to the total cost of install £3.5k. Looking back I should have spent a couple of hundred more on the boiler and gone for better quality.

I did that and and found a lot of plumbers didn't want to discuss the job. It's not just loosing the markup, I think a lot of plumbers have a brand they work with and won't touch anything else. That might work in your favour though, it's the cleverer ones who are able to read instructions and figure it out.
There a number of estimating tools available which take into account room sizes, wall locations, insulation etc. you could go through a radiator selection process then add up the radiator capacities to get the total required for heating, even if you don't change any rads. Then figure out how many showers you need to run at one time. I'm sure there are tools that would give the answer directly, been a while since I've needed to do it.
Worcester Bosch for me.

I had an Intergas combi installed early last year for the exact reasons that Gerry has pointed out. So far it has been very good . My mate , who is a registered gas engineer, swears by them.

I have a mate who is an Ideal standard engineer and got us a good deal on a 40kw combi.
Had a 10 year guarantee and is truly outstanding.

Fills a bath in about 6 minutes.

I fitted a WB a couple of years ago and got the local gas safe chap in to connect the gas and commission it. He charged me £80 and I got the extended warranty as he was an official WB accredited engineer.
The WB documentation give all the info need for the installation even paper templates for drilling the wall.
Dead easy job.

I went for a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i for my 3 bed house. Been brilliant so far (5 years). My mate is a heating engineer and it's the one he recommended. He also services it for me and had no problems of any kind.

Thank you for the info guys.
The intergas do look interesting but with a little searching there seems to be some problems with customer support from the company for the fitters. There really is a mixed response with some saying they're great and other how bad they are.
Probably best we go with Worcester as that's where we live :)
We have family members in the trade so likely to get the boiler from that source but interesting to read the comment about the final commissioning of the boiler by a recognised fitter ensuring the guarantees come into effect.
Thanks again.
