Fixing router collet

Hi all

I am trying to fix my collet to my router I put the spring in first,then the inner part of the collet and then the nut, i press the locking mechanism and try to tighten but the thing keeps jumping out when I tighten ! any ideas before I launch it into the skip ?

Sounds like the collet is the wrong one for the router (too small). Is that possible - have you done it successfully before?

Yes the collet was fitted I just Put the bit in and tightened and off I went. Gone to change bits and the collet came off.
