That's a very impressive bowl for a first attempt, even the timber is impressive, you must have done some other turning before you tried bowls I am guessing?
 
Bowl look good shape is flowing and the grain does not need anything fancy so you did the right thing keeping it simple. Also good finish all round a great first bowl
 
Hi Kim , I have turned a box and a goblet out of an old piece of pitch pine that used to hold my sisters porch up, they were first attempts too, I have done a bit of practicing on old bits of wood, but apart from from when I last did wood turning which was way back in 1983 3rd year at school , thats about it
 
You certainly seem to have a flair for the craft Andy, looking forward to seeing more of your work.
 
Very Impressive for a first bowl. great finish and simple shape that takes nothing from the marvelous figuring in the wood. Well done and welcome to the forum.
