Finishing Oak

I've made a music box out of oak (not sure if it's AWO or European) can I apply wax and if so what sort?

You're probably better with Osmo or something similar, but if you must wax, microcrystalline 0f some sort is good - it doesn't show fingerprints.

Phil I have some chestnut hard wax oil, would be better, I know absolutely nothing about wood finishing.

I've used Danish oil followed by wax on oak to good effect.

Just take a look at the "how - to's" tab at the top of the page here. I have just completed oak fire surround with Briwax with excellent results.
