I have just taken up a tiled floor in a 1885 terraced house
It was tiled in clay tiles, we managed to rescue a few and have used them to tile a hearth that is going to have a wood burning stove sitting in it.
I am not sure what to finish the tiles with, a semi gloss finish would be nice.

Suggestions / advice gratefully received.

Clay floor tiles, Much loved here in sunny Devon, You may need to clean them first, some people like a waxed finish, and others a stone sealer
Liberon do both, but there are probably loads of others out there,
Regards Rodders

I have given them a good clean. Laid them today.
Will clean again tomorrow with white spirit and gentle fine wire brush. Experiments suggest this gets them up nice.

Internet search suggests linseed oil which sounds good to me ( cheap and I have plenty already).
Still open to suggestions though

When I installed my slate hearth 25 years ago, I was advised to seal it with boiled linseed oil. It still looks good with just an occasional wipe with a damp cloth to collect any dust.

I used blo in the end
The tiles are drinking the stuff but I'm not surprised, not looking too bad a little more Matt than I wanted but will keep feeding them :D

Thanks for advice
