I have recently (rather stupidly) cut out a bandsaw box without thinking about the fact that I don't have either a belt or spindle sander. So I have come to the point where there are parts on the box which are either rough or uneven, and is hard to repair with a file and sand paper. Does anybody have any tips or advice on how to finish the box off without needing electric sanders.

Id say choose a coarser sanding grit with a suitably shaped block.

Hi Michael,
You don't really need an electric sander. As mentioned above, you need to start with a coarser grit sandpaper. Start with something like 60 or 80 grit, then 120, then 240 and 400. Then use sanding sealer (shelac) and let it dry. Then continue sanding with 600 and wax polish it.

It's important to get rid of any saw marks. The drawer interior can be flocked, so fine sanding is not really needed. The inside of the box does need some sanding, but once it has been sealed, you will find it easier.

What bandsaw are you using and what size blade?

Alex
