Electric Motor Problem

The single phase motor on my Poolewood Super lathe has stopped working! Was working fine now when I press the start button the workshop trip instantly goes. No smells or anything from the motor when it was working.

Can anyone give me a clue what to look for to find the fault?

Is it the MCB that trips or the RCD?

I take it it's the very large 6 pole slow speed beast of a motor that you have.
Does the motor/reeves drive/spindle move freely by hand?

Hi- motor turns by hand without problem

Start/run cap or suspresion cap connected across the motor.

Could be a shorted cap, faulty NVR or a loose wire touching earth.

And we won't be able to hazard a guess at the type of fault until the OP answers the question above.

btw it is extremely rare for a capacitor to fail short circuit.
