Hi All,

Could someone tell me where I can buy some 1" x 1" Ebony pen blanks please? I have already tried eBay and Turners retreat.

Cheers, Froggy.

do they need to be 1"? pen blanks are usually 3/4" which may be why you are struggling.

My experience with ebony has been limited but not altogether satisfactory. In particular the wood seems very brittle and chips rather than produces sawdust/shavings when turned. With patience and a lot of sanding it can produce an excellent finish but certainly not my first choice.

Hi Terry, I've already used it, made a slimline pen. I agree not easy to turn but as you say a bit of extra sanding and the results are good. But I have been asked for a rollerball in Ebony and therefore need a bit thicker blank.

I much prefer African Blackwood to Ebony because Ebony finishes resembling plastic whereas AF/Blackwood ranges from very black to multi coloured grains and IMHO is much more attractive.
