I inherited a Dewalt 240 V fe 733 thicknesser with a blown up motor. The armature was heavily burnt and the field coil insulation burnt. There is little chance of debris getting into the motor housing and there were no signs that it had. I took it to a motor tool shop repair centre but they could shed no light on why this happened. The unit is less than 2 years old with very little use. I have read that several other people have had the same issue. Cost of new parts is £230 and I will repair it myself.
A question for the experts - the unit’s circuit breaker is rated at 9 amps and looking at the spec it will take several seconds to blow in a overcurrent situation. In fact the consumer unit will trip in a very high current situation very much sooner. So this looks like a stupid design to me and is unlikely to protect the unit??? Can anybody shed some light on this subject.
