I am looking for something like this - http://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-duty-do ... rass/71747 - to secure a bathroom door while in use - door is just one of those hollow cardboard filed jobbys so I hope that spreading any force along its length would stop the screws from getting torn out (young children peeps involved who have torn the hook and latch out while playing/arguing)

Was going to get the one from screwfix till I read the reviews

Anyone got any other recommendations ?

I've used the same style of bolt for a few doors recently without any problems - admittedly bought locally, not from Screwfix. To be totally fair, the most recent review on Screwfix is from August 2012, and the other three are from 2011, so it's possible that they're sourcing from a different manufacturer now.

The problem's always going to be getting a decent fixing onto a thin hollow door; if the bolt's likely to be subject to some 'abuse' then one with more fixing points is likely to last a bit better IHMO.

I've fitted hundreds of these cheap doors, always being careful not to over thread the screws as it's only a thin sheet of mdf with nothing inside, but sometimes it does happen.
M4 screw connecting bolts & sleeves is the perfect answer. I always thought about it but I didn’t know they existed. One never stop learning, Thank you Carl.

No problems. They are often supplied as standard with certain fire door/ disabled access furniture.

cheers guys - I guess for the price of the bolt, its not the end of the world if it is rubbish

like the idea of those bolts tho, look a bit like cabinet connectors to me

Before you go to Screwfix, check B&M. They do the tower bolts for £2.99, Specialist brand, and they are better quality than the Screwfix ones.

Don't know about rack bolts but the huge B&M in Keighley has a few nice racks walking around :-"

In Keighley ?? Your having a laugh, aren't they all like Andy Capp's wife ? (showing my age there and dredging up some memories)
