I have to put some up later today on an outer wall behind a radiator. It's the foam-backed lining paper sort.

The instructions are stupidly vague about glue, so is it:

- Polycell (decent wallpaper paste)?
- Dilute PVA?
- Mix of Polycell and PVA?
- Titebond II?
- Rawlplugs, screws and big washers?
- Clothes pegs nailed to the wall?
- Drawing pins (painted over)?
- Something weird wot I have not got?

Decorating takes me totally out of my comfort zone, but you'd never guess it. It's not as if the carpet fitter's coming first thing tomorrow morning... er, well, it is, actually.

(Not panicking really. No. Certainly not. All calm & collected. Yup, that's it... thinking happy thoughts.)

Border and overlap adhesive might be useful.
Actually I think it's just pva, you just get charged more.

Readymix tub paste - I like Wallrock for trickier papers/surfaces, though in the past I've used whatever regular tub paste my local supplier had, without any issues.

edited to add; with readymix you can use a paint roller to apply it - makes it a lot easier!

As Pete said, this stuff is recommended for thermal lining papers

Available from here

Maybe the Whiteladies Road branch has some.

WOW.... HOW MUCH? and for how much? They must laugh making that, I'll bet there's nothing special about that stuff to warrant the pricetag, and he's only got 1 radiator to do.

I'd have said pva it, I did that to some baking foil behind two radiators 3 years ago in my rooms and it's still there no problems.

I have done a little work damproofing and insulating cold walls to stop condensation in houses which lead to hanging thermal linings (woolly wallpaper). I have used heavy duty wall paper paste which failed so now I always use - wallrock thermal liner adhesive. It comes in 5 and 10kg premixed plastic cans. expensive stuff but does the job.

Sorry; I missed the bit about it only being for a small piece. However, for those wanting to cover a larger area, the Wallrock paste is good stuff as mentioned by others. I've used Wallrock lining paper and paste for covering a couple of walls that had small hairine cracks and various bits of odd plastering where the wall had been chased out for cables and the like. It was very easy to hang and gave a good finish for painting.

Thanks all - PVA seems to have sorted it pretty well. I "pasted" the back of the paper with neat woodwork-strength PVA, then held it on the wall with a piece of board pushed against it, until it became reluctant to spring off again.

The insulation value feels pretty good to the palm of the hand (we have solid walls, unfortunately), but it IS a really expensive solution, or so it seems. If I did the whole wall (too late now), I'm wondering how long payback would be - decades, probably.
