I fancy a Marimba. Looks like a simple woodwork project. There's a page here. http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-Your-Own-Marimba/

I just wondered if anybody on here has any experience or particular advice to offer.
Books on wooden percussion instruments?

PS since writing the above I've started to discover a whole other world! http://www.craftymusicteachers.com/bassmarimba/

I always smile at the casual remarks of "simplicity to make" from many(most) of the forum members here for things like the above. I'd call a box simple - I might even be stretched to include dovetails in that sentence.. the above? Not so much.

This is in no way a remark on the skills of said people to whom it obviously is a simple project.

I think the woodwork is simple but the fine tuning is not. I might have a go at a one octave model.

Masses of info out there https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=making+a+marimba

Keys are key. Tuned like a bell.
