I think most people are aware of the potential of instantaneous combustion with cloths used to apply Danish Oil - hence soak in water / dry flat etc.
However whether it is age thing or the onset of OCD, I seem to be doing the same thing with cloths, paper towels with all sorts of finishes and even when using sanding sealers - but with the interim step of just putting them outside the workshop door which results in a general scattering around the garden which herself isn't too enamoured with.

So the question is whether there is anything else other than Danish Oil that you need to be really careful with?

Before anyone says "read the *@..... label", I used to share bulk buys with my brother-in-law and he got to keep the original containers but unfortunately he is no longer with us so I can't ask him - and I'm loathe to join him just yet, hence the question.

Thanks,

Glynne

I am always careful with any of the drying oils and varnishes- tru-oil, boiled linseed etc. to be honest, tend to use kitchen towel and put a match (outside) to it afterwards.

I do the same. Rags get chucked into an old terracotta pot outside the workshop, they get burnt as and when the British climate allows.

I do the same with rags soaked in WD40, mineral oil etc once they are beyond use.

Thanks Guys,

I think the old recycling ethos was going a bit overboard here.
My former occupation was as a Business Analyst which can be roughly described as "telling your client the bleedin obvious" - and in this case I can accurately be described as the client!
As a scouser, I'm sure I can find a match / lighter somewhere around.

Cheers,

G.
