Dimension or quantity , lost in translation

Hi.
I recivet mesage

The size is 190mm x 235mm x 50mm, with the opening on the longest side.
500 off.

What means 500 off ?

This always confuses me too, but from an engineer friend my understanding is that the 'off' means 'of' as is, number of.

So I would interpret this as meaning he wants 500 units of something to those dimensions.

I believe it comes from this:

"The technique of measuring quantities from drawings, sketches and specifications prepared by designers, principally architects and engineers, in order to prepare tender/contract documents, is known in the industry as taking off."

Which would mean in your case taking off the quantity from your specifications abbreviated to "off".
