Blinking typical
Found this well damaged plane after it had been listed for loads of times and thought it was over egged price wise
Was thinking of making an offer when it finished......
Well this time it has gone to a maiden bidder
Curse of putting on "watch" #-o

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370745518805? ... 1423.l2649

It is of interest to me as I have one and cannot pinpoint a maker for it.

It has the rear handle held on by a sliding dovetail and there is the unusual "pimple" just in the front of the mouth.

The lever on mine is not as ornate and the one on this one looks like the pivot stands proud of the side lugs?

What do ya reckon?

Were you the lucky one and can we compare 8)

Andy

I saw it but didn't bite - it's broken on one side and could not be used - I still prefer my tools to be at least theoretically usable Andy !!

Sorry Andy not guilty, but I have just won a cracking looking early plough. Can't wait for it to get here so I can see who's makers mark is stamped on it. T Granford hopefully :!:

This one by any chance Richard?

Is it just the two of you buying up all the interesting stuff these days? I feel like I'm accidentally stalking you both!

Andy, looking again at that plane, prompted by your mention of the sliding dovetail to hold the handle... the only other one I've ever seen with that was the one that Dangermouse bought (and sold again but not to you or Richard) - https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/mystery-plane-t52371.html - and the somewhat crude cast frog looks similar too - what do you think?

Andy =D> =D> =D> Thank you :D
I knew I had seen that "pimple" somewhere before.....
This is now looking to be a "manufactured" plane.
So was there a name on the lever cap of the one that just sold?
C-mon who's got it :)

And Richard I really hope that has a magical name on it 8)

Andy

Maybe where I thought the casting was broken at the front, it's actually the same fragile-looking hook detail for the lever cap?

Great eyes and memory - good spot!

Same design now seen in two sizes.

Not me either...I was put off by the broken casting...most things are fixable but this is not one of them...not by me anyway and any repair brazed on is going to show badly at that point.

I don't have the heart to break one of those for spares though the lever cap would have been nice to have...and the iron/cap iron too...those alone are worth the winning bid price!

  So, what are you trying to say Jim

Will have to load up some pics of mine

Andy

Well...I kind of collect bits and a gunmetal lever cap goes for about £30-£40 on FleaBay so I guess the whole thing with the blade (another tenner) is worth £50 with a broken sole. That's what I meant...as spares but I think I would have a hard time breaking any tool for parts...except maybe a Paramo but then what the hell would I use those parts for!
