Delta 46-700UK 12" variable speed wood lathe

Good morning all,
I have inherited the above from my father-in-law, but cannot get it to work (tried the usual - check power supply, change plug fuse etc). My mother-in-law says it was working before, so I wonder if it is just a simple problem. One point - the on/off switch on the lathe does not "click" to the "on" position, it just returns to "off". Could there be a trip-switch mechanism that needs to be reset?
This is my first experience of any form of wood turning, so please treat me as a total novice when you reply. Thank you Ian

Where abouts in Cambs are you I am in Peterborough?

It sounds like there is another switch somewhere I have tried to find info on this but there is very little about.

Can you post a picture of it, you will have to make a couple more posts first though.

At the top of page 11, I see reference to a 'Safety Feature' which could be the cause. Do you actually have the Switch Toggle [C] to which they refer? and is it in place?
