Is this possible?

I have to fit a shower screen in under a sloped ceiling, so either the corner needs cutting off a panel, or the bottom needs cutting off all of the panels. What are my chances?

Not possible. The toughening process introduces too much internal stress, so even a cooled abrasive disc will cause the piece to explode into tiny pieces. Can you make a hole in the ceiling?

That's not the answer I wanted. No, I can't make a hole in the ceiling (sufficient to take this corner, anyway).

So, next question. Where do I find a quadrant shower screen that is only 1750 high?

You might have to have something specially made.
Ask at a good glass merchant , it might not be as bad as you think. Consider laminated glass, that is cut-able.

A little infill panel 100mm wide with a sloped top would let me buy a 900 x 800 screen ........but making it look right (ie matching the aluminium sections etc) could be a nightmare.

This was a job we had done late last year, a shower screen under a sloping ceiling, further complicated by a little dog leg before the door.

The glass panels were made to fit and came from a specialist maker, I'm pretty sure they were on the continent. There was a debate about different glass thicknesses, but in the end I went for the thicker one in order to avoid any "badoyoyoing" noises when the shower door was shut. If you want I can try and dig out the glass panel costs.

you could try a company called AQATA in leicestershire they make custom shower surrounds the number i have is 01455896501 they may ask you to go through a local stockist the only thing is its up to you to provide accurate drawings etc hope this helps . ian

Thanks Custard (nice shower!), but I have a plan coming together.

I am going to buy the enclosure plus an additional length of channel, then get a local glazier to make the bespoke panel and have it annealed, using the supplied piece as a template.

Thanks for that. I'll bear them in mind if my cunning plan comes to nought.

All you need to do is make a ply template of the take it to a glass supplier and get them to send it off.

I use Jewson's for my glass.

Just make sure you spec it right eg toughened with polished edges and the thickness.

If you want to avoid the toughening mark, ask them to put a furniture mark on.

This is a straight line and should be at the edge so will be hidden in the channel.
