Got to love Delphi!

I've not used it myself, but there is LignumCAD:

It seems to be a CAD tool that is especially woodwork-oriented.

They maintain a fairly current list of low-cost woodworking software at WoodWeb: http://www.woodweb.com/Resources/RSSoft ... ction.html.

The forums are also a friendly place for asking questions.

We use CabinetVision for cut lists, but it's not at all inexpensive. :-\ Handy, though, if you know someone who has a shop that you can tinker in on the weekends!

I grabbed CustList and it did exactly what I wanted it to. I'm cutting free-standing, wall mounted shelves from birch plywood and CutList allowed me to try out different shelf and board size combinations to minimize waste and money.

Theoretically it would work for planning an arrangement of rectangular cutting from any material.

I didn't look at the other suggestions (I was already using CutList by the time they were posted) but I appreciate the advice and I'll take a look at them if my woodworking endeavors get any more sophisticated.

Hi all anybody know of a free cut list plan .
Cheers Phil.
I use a freebee called OPTIMIK but it restricts you to about 30 parts per sheet on the freebee version. It takes into consideration saw kerf and you can orientate the grain for each piece.

I use cutlist plus...

they do a free trial version.

I use it for ply and mdf cut lists and have even used it for hardwoods, it does work and does help me plan cutting quicker.

For hardwoods (knots & shakes etc.) i quickly lay out the boards and measure off the decent parts as individual rough stock and put them into the program as an inventory for that project and then get it to work out the cutlist from these measured parts....... If that makes sense.

You can purchase it for $89.00 and they send a CD and everything from the USA, very friendly and professional. I was lucky as I trialed it for them a few years ago and therfor didnt pay.

I find it pretty good.
