Can anyone help me. I have just had a look at the super 8 table for the cricket world cup. It says england have played 2, won 1 and lost 1. As far as I was aware England have only played Ireland and they beat them.

What is going on??

The top two teams in each group qualified for the super 8. The team that they played in the qualifying rounds, the result carries into the super 8. If say england played South Africa ( I can't remember the side they actually played) and lost then that result carries forward to save playing them again.

I hope that explanation is clearer than mud.

now come on guys you are talking about cricket!!!!

it is not supposed to be understandable to ordinary mortals,
and the world cup rules are designed not to be accessible to anyone
but the guy who wrote them, oh and of course the Times and Telegraph
reporters

Ah yes Cricket, that wonderful game invented by us Brits and played much better by every other country in the world! A few others spring to mind too in this league. :)
