What a god awful presenter.......*shiver*

Maybe Peter; but he has a massive following!
If you can ignore his cavalier attitude to whizzing blades, he can be entertaining.

I might break out my smallest bandsaw blade myself, when I finish the washing-up; and put the garbage out, and put the dishes away, and get the eggs out of the 'fridge, ready for brekkers tomorrow, and... and....
Y'know how it goes!

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't posted, late nights and a cold are to blame.

Anyway, I took the clamps of the pieces of wood and tidied things up and have been left with the following.

What I have (left to right) is Cedar, Oak, Red Meranti and American Cherry.

It looks lovely just as it is, it measures 4 inches wide by 3.5 inches high.

I do need some advice

Which face should I use as "front"

Cedar

Or American Cherry

Both look as if they would look really nice when finished, which brings me to the next request.

Bearing in mind I am a novice, what is the simplest yet effective finish for something like this?

Thanks for looking

Mark

I hadn't realised how easy bandsaw boxes are to make, this guy's video really makes it clear. The first few seconds almost made me switch off but it's certainly worth watching once it gets started. I'm going to give it a go.

Wood turners may be interested in this link

which combines turning with bandsaw box techniques.

Hi all,

Decided to brave the cold and go back to the shed. Had a good time as it happens.

Anyway, here is an update of where I am.

This will be a Christmas present from my son to his mum.

I got the heart shape from a word processor, doing it this way lets me get the size I want.

I found cutting the shape out quite tricky, but it was my first proper project using a bandsaw so I can only assume I will get better.

I can see why designs on the internet focus on irregular shapes, regular or symmetrical shapes are hard to get right.

Next step, remove the top and bottom.

This next bit really made me nervous, not being familiar to bandsaws and knowing the limit of the cutting radius of my blade, I wasn't sure this cut would work.

You can see at the top of the inner heart where I had to do some maneuvering of the blade.

It seems a big shame that the middle bit is potentially waste but I have a plan, I just need to see if it pans out.

Anyway, time to close the blade entry point.

That's enough for one chilly afternoon.

Comments are certainly welcome.

Seasons greetings everyone,

Finished the bandsaw box and the wife loves it.

Here are the pics.

Once the gap was glued up, I completed the bottom and the lid.

Then the real magic happened, applying the finish. I read up on Danish oil which seemed the easiest to apply so had a go.

That's it, finished, now looking at my next project.
