I'm spending some time re tuning and painting my planes before winter sets it!
What's the best way to strip the paint? Other than abut of emery cloth and good old elbow grease

Thanks started cleaning up the cap irons screws and all the other little bits brass nobs ect I used my wire wheel on a bench grinder ( a soft one ) works. Treat removes all large scratches n paint before buffing on a a cotton wheel
Got three done being carful with my fingers
 
are your planes really bad enough that you need to strip all the japanning off them? after all, it's the blade that makes the difference between a good cut and a bad cut.
