hello all
just thought i would ask if anyone knows where i can purchase a vee
belt over the counter around the preston lancaster area
lathe is a clarke cwl,30,rv.
machine mart dont do them anymore and have put me in touch with their
suppliers.
i ordered two from them but may be a week or so before they arrive,
thought i was thinking too hard when i smelled rubber then it happened,
a broken belt and only just over three months old,
any help would be appreciated,
david.

HI

Check with a local car spares place you might be able to find one to fit, another place to check is in yellow pages or equivelant for belt manafacturers.

Also, the current Clarke range are fairly standard re-badged Far Eastern imports - is there a local manufacturer/dealer that sells the equivalent model that you gcould get spares from off-the-shelf?

thanks to all who have tried to help me obtain a new belt
for the lathe
had a new belt delivered today straight from clarke
and its the wrong size so the search continues
emailed a couple more companies but no replies as yet(ah well)
looks like no turning for the time being.
regards
david.

It's a long time ago that I lived in Cockerham, but in those days, Lisle tool shop in Lancaster were quite helpful.
Otherwise, have you looked in yellow pages under "Power Transmission"? There's usually a belt distributor under that heading, and sometimes firms listed under "Bearings and Seals" also do belts.

You could try Nutool. They're pretty quick and do sell the same lathe

thanks to all of you for your help
i have emailed all the companies,,,,,but most say they cannot help me
without the specific length of the old one.
alas it totally disintegrated when it gave up the ghost.
what i am going to do now is purchase a step down pulley with five vee grooves so i will be able to fit almost any belt to the lathe .
thankyou one and all.
regards
david.

Hi,
What about a link belt http://www.fennerdrives.com/high_perfor ... Qgod8hcLxA its what I use on my lathe, and it reduced the vibration.

I got a couple of lengths out of the skip at work! You can make any length of belt you want available from bearing suppliers, heating and ventilation etc. Take your old belt the match the width.

i have got fixed up now and i am up and running again
