I have the buffing system and have had some pleasing results even though I have not used it that much due to building a toy train.

One thing that I have noticed is that I use wheel A with the brown bar, and find I get quite a good shine but then I move on to wheel B instead of improving the finish it just dulls it, I then move on to wheel C and all it does is bring it back to the same shine as wheel A.

Firstly what am I doing wrong as I find that by missing out wheel B I can get a great finish better than using all three.

What are you buffing DB? Is it bare wood or are you buffing a finish?

How much abrasive are you applying, not by any chance smearing the surface with excessive wax carrier?

Try using the other end of the white stick in case abrasive is not mixed evenly.

And just on a very remote possibility, mops labelled correctly,
A: coarse linen feel (darkest)
B: softer linen/cotton mix feel (mid shade)
C: Very soft and fluffy Cotton. (white)

Guy to talk To Is terry Smart he sells it and he is A member here and the chestnut rep
Regards
Bill

Thanks for all the replies.

Try using the other end of the white stick in case abrasive is not mixed evenly.I did that today(by accident) still the same

And just on a very remote possibility, mops labelled correctly, A & B mops look the same colour but B looks a fractionally a coarser weave will have to double check in the morning

B: softer linen/cotton mix feel (mid shade)

Hope this has answered some of your questions you have asked me

I get my best results by using wheels A & B like you do and for the final polish I use Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax put on by hand and when dry buffed up with wheel C

I have some vague memories of a buffing system being sold ( maybe a year ago ? ) with wrongly labeled wheels. I cannot remember which make it was but how long have you had yours ?

Thanks for that John

looking at CHJ's post with the pictures of the wheels it looks like I have two wheel A's but one is marked wheel B, or two B's  Will Have to see I have e mailed Chestnut products.

All sorted now thanks to Terry. As I said in the first post it was me that was doing something wrong, I am now getting a much better finish but I still can improve on it with a little more practice on my behalf.
