Cherry Scoop

Thought I'd have another go with a different wood this time. I also jam chucked it to reverse and finish and turn the detail in the end of the handle.

i like that, but (not that I am in a position to criticize) I think that I would prefer the scoop part to be a little longer.

2 methods....either bansaw the half off after you've finished or sand it off on a belt sander. I belt sanded mine.

Actually I think he has been making goblets, but being cherry they have split.

Yes Cherry is the "kingfisher" of woods isn't it....colourful, striking and handsome. The birch one I did the day before wasn't in the same class for looks.

When turned the "bowl" was perfectly round.

I might be on the verge of spotting the flaw in your process Larry......you need to take your blanks out the stream a little while longer before you turn them

I agree...from the photo it does...in real life however.....totally different

That is the only problem with photo's the amount of times I have taken a picture and the grain does not pop like it does in the flesh :roll:
