Dunno if anyone else happened across Restoration Village on the Beeb? The one on Friday (repeated tonight, BBC2 7pm) includes Chedham's Yard (and on the BBC site here), a disused wheelwright's and blacksmith's yard. The more galootish neanderthal may wish to catch it. Strangely I find myself thinking that not voting for it is probably its best hope of meaningful survival - plans threaten it with "heritage" and "visitor's centre". Yuck, yuck, yuckity yuck...

Cheers, Alf

Yeah, I saw that. Considering that several "living museums" have wheelwright's and blackmith's shops in full working flow, I can't really see the (national) motivation in spending 1,000,000 on 3 sheds.

I gasped at the cost of £1m to restore this yard which was quoted by the County Council person. I could not believe my ears. And it just sounded like a sanitised version of real working sheds with no feel. The Council must have added on at least 40% in contingencies, overheads, fees and health and safety, etc plus not to mention the opening costs. I certainly would not have voted for this project as it was described. I would like the sheds to be understood better but at thios cost and sanitisation this is bonkers.

Did like the table leg, I think the majority of us would relate to that. One of those jobs that you just never get around too.
