Hi all, anyone got any experience of importing from Canada? I am looking at a 220v Bandsaw and wonder if it's compatible with our quoted 240v UK electrics :x
Gut feel is yes as although we quote 240 - electrical providers only commit to provide single phase in the range 210v - 240v

Anyone have any idea?

Voltage would not be a problem but the difference in frequency might be if the motor is an induction type.

Canadian supplies are 60Hz (RPM 3420 2pole- 1710 4pole)
UK supplies are 50Hz. (RPM 2850 2pole- 1425 4pole)

A Canadian Induction Motor will run at a slower RPM in the UK. (universal brush motors would be no problem)
Dependant upon design and loading the motor may also overheat if subjected to heavy loads for prolonged periods as it will draw more current and be less efficient as it may well have less iron core content than a 50Hz motor..
