Hi

I have never done turning and want to start, i have been looking at a used lathe as some come with the complete setup, any advice on which is a good lathe please.

I am currently looking at a record clo24x12 and a coronet. any advice would be helpful. looking around £300 to start me off.

Thanks.

I would advise you to
1/ buy a copy of this -

2/ Try to find a local club to try out.

Don't buy either a lathe or tools with no knowledge, you asking to waste your money. Don't forget you will spend as much if not more on tools, a chuck and a grinder than you will on a bare lathe. If you join a club, apart from getting tuition cheaply you can often pick up good quality stuff where people have traded up or down (people get older, change direction, move house etc. and need smaller lathes). Some people will advise going to a pro for some tuition first, but I would be inclined to get some working experience first - that's for you to decide.
