As a matter of interest my wife recently had to visit an ear specialist, amongst other things he said, " Ordinary Olive Oil is just the same ", but less pricey of course.

The only trouble I have found with these drops is the cotton wool does not get anywhere near enough out and what's left just hardens up again. I could try a cotton wool bud but I was always told not to use them.

On the other hand there maybe better drops out now, so I will investigate.

You dont need cotton wool she just puts in 4 drops 3 x a day until the blockage is broken down. Putting cotton wool in just stops the wax coming out
