Just found these on amazon I need a new bench for my workshop and I want a small one for the kitchen to work with my hand tool projects in the winter.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Workbench-1-2m- ... +Workbench

they do 1.2 , 1.5 , and 1.8m lentghs the top is 2inches thick

for the money they are well constructed and very heavy , they don't think much to them on the hand tool section

the only weak spot possibly is some bracing along the front and back which is an easy fix and then I think will be very solid for the money far better than some of the crap ones I seen

I quite like monkeys fella (homer)

also if you pay gold bars you end up with peanuts :-k

do you happen to know how many monkeys I will get for my peanuts ? just the one or more ?

Don't you just love internet trolls

Might work ok for a scroll saw stand or for storage in a garage but it won't last door long with hand tool use.

it will do for me tommy :D

get me coat ? lost me on that one 8)

sorry don't agree with you boys at all it will be totally fine for chipping away on my little clocks.

i think i would be more upset paying 160 notes for the flimsy axminster one and in my opinion the sjoberg 400 pound one looks flimsy too

still i only a humble scroll sawer from up north what do i know hey ?

well you could had said hello \:D/ i like to get to know someone first before they insult my intelligence

Looks pretty solid to me, depending on use of course, but whether it's worth it or not worth it is beyond me. I'd always make my own anyway, preferably from steel.

Honestly I don't think it would be all that bad for your usage at all especially with some bracing But .. you could make that in a few hours I would think. It looks really simply made.

Unless you think the timber would be about the same price, then I would make it.

That does depend on what tools you have though.

If you are going to build a work bench, "Wickes", stud work timber is ideal for the framework/legs etc, it is PAR, shake free and true enough for the job. To make the legs I glued and screwed two lengths together making approx 3”x 4”.
This studwork timber is less money than their sawn only timber and straighter.

I have recently built a bench using this timber, I already had the timber for the top surface, two inches thick, which came from an old large dining table, sacrilege really, but it was a heavy piece of timber and I was fed up moving it around the garage.

Very pleased with the finished job, it is very stable, does not move a fraction even when using a heavy hand plane. Just waiting for a couple of bench clamps from Axminster. :D

Take care.
