My son recently had sky broadband installed and it did not work, BT arrived to fix the line problem. Had a chat with him he said does not matter who you are with BT run the exchange, road side junction boxes, poles and lines, so if there is an issue it's usually BT that has the problem. I assume the other providers hire from BT. If this is correct you just as well be with BT.

These are my thoughts exactly. I have an ordinary copper BT telephone line so no matter what speed the various broadband providers promise, they are limited by the capability of the line which, I assume they hire from BT and the on-line predictor says I should expect 0.75 pbps. Clockwork broadband?

Has anyone any experience of Primus? Very cheap for the 20Gb option.

We have ancient aluminium? wires to our houses and used to receive 1.2Mbs max. But when our village got Infinity I recd. 37 (instead of the 40 max).
We were upgraded again to Infinity 2 this year and I now receive 70Mbs on a good day.

Rod that is quick the download must be there almost before you click go. :D I have 2 megs max

Other than downloading a lot of (ahem) gentlemens videos, what do you guys use 70mb connections for? I've been on 10Mb for the last few years and whilst it would be nice to have the extra speed I just can't find a (legitimate) use for more. I wouldn't want less, but I've been absolutely happy to date with 10Mb.

Instead of putting the price down, they're increasing me to 20Mb next year some time. Would much rather pay half as much :)

I am in SA14 at the end of the line down a country lane (average 0.85mb) and use Plusnet. 6.49 a month, uk call centre, very very efficient when sorting out problems (which turned out to be down to the BT line). From my experience - Recommended!

Went with Plusnet a few years ago and got Line rental, daytime, weekend and evening calls, broadband (1.8mb) for £25 amonth which has steadily risen to £36 a month, grrrr

+1 for Plusnet, it takes less than a few minutes for technical support to answer the phone. Never a disconnection.

Zen

I'm not too enamoured with things like FON. When some paedophile does a drive-by and uses my 5% to access some child porn site then I'd rather someone else's IP address was associated with that.
So would they Zen. That's why they hijack your connection! Bahst hewards...

Hi

I have been with Utility Warehouse for a number of years. Found them very good. They will also supply your energy needs too. If you have gas and electric with them broadband IIRC is approx £20 all in which includes telephone all 24/7 tele calls excluding 0845 etc. They are UK based so no call centres overseas.

Regards
Cono

Have been with waitrose (now John Lewis broadband) via copper line for a long time. They used to be unbelievably reliable and reasonably fast. But lately, since apparently they changed who actually supplied their connection, something has been dropping out far too regularly. Every two or three days, internet disappears for up to three hours - the router can still see it, but there's no "signal". Not really a problem as it's not critical, but disappointing after a long period of good service.
