this was made using domino knockdown fittings which work pretty well tbh(although a knockdown and a domino are really tight and need clamping to close up)

breadboard seem to be a thing beloved of septics( tanks)over the water. its rare to see a table over there without tbh. gives that rustic look that septics love.

I'm nearly finished on my breadboard end worktops and it was a really easy process with a domino. at least after I'd established the thing was putting dominoes in at an upward angle the play in the detent was faulty.
anyway I want to use 1/4 inch blackwood dowels but the problem is making them and inserting them I guess. they won't knock through a dowel plate without breaking. maybe I should use another wood unless someone has any suggestions.

I had similar problem recently trying to use Blackwood so went with walnut.
This technique would be worth a try if you’re set on Blackwood:

managed to finish this without softening the corners. the african blackwood dowels were by far the trickiest part. I cut long lengths a smidge over then planed to octagons. the set up a fence on the spindle sander to get them round worked reasonably well. putting them in involved clamping with a very long clamp as tight as poss on each domino then carefully starting the dowels at either end. finally cut off close to the top and carefully knock in(don't drawbore more than a smidge with blackwood) and make each hammer blow square.
