All nice stuff, particularly like the shape and style of the first bowl :D
Always nice to see timbers we don't often have in the UK

Andrew

As Andrew says it's interesting to see differing wood types and style interpretation.

A comment on the Rosewood Chip & Dip bowl regarding what appears to be lifting end grain on the rim, (could just be the way the light is catching it though) if you still have the chucking recess in the base and the oil has hardened I would suggest you try giving it another coat of oil around the rim using 400-600 grit abrasive and a further buffing as it dries to see if it will glaze over.

Thank's gents for the comments

Chaz you are correct about the outer edge even used spray of water to sand it back 1st. Yes chuck can still be fitted so will have another go it is hardening nicley.

The edge was to be my first Rose engine pattern or similar but as it was very chippy I couldn't do that.

Chas did as suggested worked a treat I am gratefull for your suggestion :D I took it to The Ornamental Turners Group I joined recently and they were impressed with the finish after 2nd sanding.

Just looked at the date of my last post on this forum  over a month ago.

sadly wet weather has hampered my getting out in the shed at times worst March / April rain we have had for 15 years.

Thats my excuse

3 days of sun and I got to make another bowl not quite finished its Oak.

Picked the log up at Reception place my daughter is having her wedding next year. Spotted a pile of logs and asked for a sample got two.

The pile sat under a great old Pepper tree which I was hopping one of the logs would be a piece  Nope one was the Oak the other a nice piece of Juniper I have yet to attack.

The bowl is about 150 mm dia by 70 mm high finishing with Danish Oil.

Good stuff pal, I like the shapes - especially the oak, fairly unusual to my eye.

Where the logs you picked up dry or wet?

Chip & dip is a good idea too!

Sorry it took me so long to return Thanks to all for your comments on the spalted Oak bowl
